BMW – A box of bits, where did it all start?

When I tell people that my Bike as it stands, started out as a Box of bits, most people stand aghast at the thought of it.

So I thought I’d post a few shots of what I started out with and from where I picked it up and got started on the Build.

The good news was there were parts that had been stripped and restored already, notably:

1. The Wheels – had been stripped and powder coated
2. The Frame – same, had been stripped and powder coated

The bad news was that quite a bit of the remainder was a mess, missing or had to be restored, cleaned and in some cases just plain old recognized i.e. where the hell does that fit?

1. Engine – had a cracked sump and a drilled fitting that was seized in the front case
2. Wiring loom – bits of connectors remained but that was about it
3. Seat – Nope
4. Tyres – Nope
5. Exhaust – Nope
6. Tank – dented and rusted out
7. Lights – Bin

So it is with a lot of projects that you assess, source, clean and re-use as much as you can, then hit eBay and parts suppliers for the rest.

So here’s what I had when I got it back.

It’s what made the whole process so fascinating though and what brains are for – figuring stuff out, one piece at a time…

Would I do it again?
