For me, the headlamp is one of the key features on a Custom bike.
I wanted my Bike to look distinctive, old and have something of character to set it off. So the hunt began. The original R65 lamps were functional but fairly slim and at first I just restored it and fitted some new indicator lamps into it but I wasn’t happy.
So after some Q&A on a forum or too I was offered an old MZ style headlamp complete with inlaid Speedo and Ignition key.
Now, this was no mean feat as everything had to be re-wired into the lamp. But it was a neat solution to the problem often faced of where to locate the ignition switch?
First I dismantled it – figured out the basic wiring, before stripping it back to Bare Metal, priming it and then painting in Satin Back with a spray can.
Once on the Bike I think it looks great and the size of it really gives my Bike a special old school character
