So, once stripped I got the Engine on the Bench and continued to inspect, clean and generally de-grease the whole thing. Inspecting each item as I went along, cleaning each nut, case and surface with a Wire brush on a Drill…
Couple of issues uncovered and replacement parts fitted.
First the Inlet Rubbers were perished/cracked.. so replaced with new £95 from Motorworks.
Also had a stud that wouldn’t come out of the front case… a little drilling and a screw extractor sorted that. I’ve been in exactly the same place with the R65…. this is where experience starts to make the issues less frustrating.
Takes a bit of patience and multiple drill sizes but sorted that.
I also replaced the pesky Z Pipe which was on it’s way out if not already through – these let air in and again I came across it on my previous K75 rebuild so new one fitted.
While I was at the Engine, I strung the whole frame up from the Garage roof, wire brushed it and sprayed and hand painted with Satin Black Hammerite…
That was really the reason for taking it apart…
Once cleaned and replacement bits sourced and fitted I put it back on the floor onto the Engine Jack to re-start the re-build…
As Haynes says, rebuilding as a reversal of removal… so off we go to the start of it’s re-awakening…
I still have all the Paintwork to do and I’m not looking forward to that. Plus strip and paint the front Forks as well as get the thing running again and check it’s all functioning.
