So, the nice thing about the K bikes are that the Engine, Box and Drive are a single unit and can be separated from the Frame.. out with spanners!
What genius design, the challenge was one I accepted to get it back on the road.
Mine wasn’t quite as clean as the one above though.
With a new one secured from eBay – £140 I set about undoing it from the frame, basically easy then unplugging all the wiring, before walking the frame away from the Drive
Once off, everything was inspected, wire brushed – by the way, wire brush – best tool…
Before reversing the procedure
Most difficult bit = cleaning everything
Tools needed = Allen Keys, Spanners, General Tools
Time needed – 40 hours start to finish
Parts required – Fresh Oils, Engine Paint, Rubber Pipes to replace anything that is degraded, mine needed a Brake union as I also decided to remove the ABS while at it. Also needed a replacement Exhaust manifold – fresh studs and nuts.
Once replaced you need to do the following:
- Check for Coolant and Oil Leaks
- Check everything is tight – after a ride or two
- Check for Vacuum Leaks
- Reverse Bleed Brakes – easy with a Syringe
- Continue to clean and improve electrical connections are clean
- Ride it regularly!
