One of the things that happens to a Boxer when you strip it down and put different Air Filters on it and remove the standard Airbox is that you get left with a Big Hole at the Back of the Engine above the Gearbox.
While some like this “see through” simplicity, to me it kind of feels unfinished. You can see here, I even plugged it with a towel ready for shipping so that crap couldn’t find it’s way into the Engine.
It leaves a hole into the Starter motor area, as well as the Fuel pipes on my R65 sprawling across the back and leaves an ugly right angle above the Gearbox. I’ll post more detailed pics later as well as the overview and end result.
So, this is the year I have resolved to fix/improve it.
I surfed around yesterday and happened on this – made by some dudes based in New Zealand – The Better Boxer Co. – Great name by the way. It looks elegant, is made from Aluminium and fits my Engine. So order in, along with the associated breather setup.
It’s enroute now to the UK.
Once here, the plan will be to cut into the lower corners to allow the Fuel pipe to continue across the Gearbox and a Matt Black paintjob then fit to the Bike.
I’ve not decided on what to do about the loss of the BMW logo from the Original but a blank canvas presents itself!
