Well here’s the process for what it’s worth…
Setout a Mini booth – I used old cardboard to create a backshield and wipe down surfaces each time… also used Tack Cloths which make a big difference on getting a good clean item before spraying.
Open the Doors – this stuff is horrible on the lungs..
- Sand – Wet and Dry
- Fill – Dents and scratches
- Sand Again – Dry and Wet
- Use a Tack Cloth – Clean
- Prime – Grey Primer 3 Coats
- Sand again, Fill again, Sand again
- Primer – 1 More Flash
- Allow to dry each time
- Use a Tack Cloth – Clean
- Top Coat – Colour – 3 Coats
- Allow to dry
- Clear Lacquer – 2/3 coats
- Allow to dry
While I’ve not perfected the art – it’s cost around £150 in Paper, Paint and Cans plus countless days over Christmas moving parts around, painting, waiting and going through the above, I think it’ll result in a Tidy Bike at the end of it…
I also chose to Wire-brush, clean and Hammerite the underside for protection as it was scruffy…
Not perfect, still some imperfections but good enough for a 30 year plus Bike and several hundred/thousand pounds saved on a Pro Job…
