So – the Sun has started to finally shine through and Spring has arrived in England so I decided to brush the Bike off, start it up and take it for it’s MOT Test in preparation for re-registration back in the UK.
While it’s been off the road I’ve done a couple of small service jobs and tried to quieten down the Exhaust.
- Exhaust Silencers – took them apart, stuffed with Muffling FibreGlass Material and re-built and installed them.
- Exhaust Silencers – bought a couple of Chinese Metal DB reducers – friction fitted into the end of each can.
- Exhaust Wrap removed from downpipes and then sanded and re-finished back to stainless as they had tarnished underneath from the Damp. Decided the raw metal look is better.
Result – still quite a roar, 102dbs before, 100dbs after, so a 2DB reduction.
But definitely a little softer and less harsh. All the original material had blown out and so maybe this is something I need to schedule more regularly.
Beyond that, I’ve lifted the handlebars with some original BMW mounts… makes for a more upright riding position which I’m still to re-adjust too, but figure it might reduce arm ache on longer rides… let’s see.
So today, it was the turn of the MOT station, so started first click – of course and fully insured rode it to the test station… PASSED… boom.
Now to pull all the paperwork together and send off to the UK DVLA and see if it get’s its UK number plate back… DKA 51X… be interesting.
Only small things tester pointed out – needed a stick on rear reflector, and the headlights might be pointing an inch too high.
